Willernie MN Homes for Sale

Willernie is a very small Minnesota town that sits just north of Lake Washington. And although only around 500 people call Willernie home today, the community only spans about 84 acres, allowing for residents to feel a close, tight-knit community bond you can only seem to get from small town living in America. Although many only considering Willernie to be little more than just a small lake village, its close proximity to the Twin Cities certainly allows it to be much more than that, as you’ll see when you keep reading below.

Living in Willernie

In many ways, Willernie lives more like a neighborhood than anything else, especially since the city of Mahtomedi borders it on every single side. Additionally, because of its location near the south east corner of White Bear Lake, Willernie tends to feed off of activity that surrounds one of Minnesota’s largest lakes, as well as in the Mahtomedi community as well. Willernie’s main drag is Stillwater Road, which is where you’ll actually find a fairly nice collection of restaurants, cafes, and taverns that cook up some of Washington County’s best eats. Just a little bit further down Stillwater Road is Mahtomedi Middle School and Mahtomedi High School, which is where most local students attend class.

Willernie Real Estate at a Glance

With just over 200 households total, you won’t find a lot in Willernie in terms of active homes for sale. If you have your heart set on living in the Willernie community, though, the area is full of small cottages and split level single-family homes, which is about what you’d expect to see in a tiny Minnesota lake town. The roads are mostly all residential and lined with mature trees and overgrowth, also helping enhance that classic midwest lake vibe. If you’re a home buyer who values lots of space and privacy, Willernie may not be the best fit. Most homes for sale in Willernie are packed pretty tightly into the area, which is typical for a community near a lake or some form of water. With that said, though, homes in town surely won’t disappoint most buyers, as much of the local real estate market is known for affordability due to so many homes or properties not sitting directly on the water. New construction in Willernie is also starting to pick up a bit, which mostly comes in the form of a tear-down. But when home buyers in the area specifically want a new home that is sure to fit all their needs and wants, it’s like the old saying goes: “you gotta do what you gotta do.”
